In February 2007, the Bosley LaserComb became the first medical laser device to receive FDA clearance for the promotion of hair growth. Clinically proven to work, and grounded in over 20 years of scientific data, the Bosley LaserComb is the first and only medical device cleared by the FDA to promote hair growth.

The Bosley LaserComb works via the principle of photo-biostimulation, a process by which laser energy is delivered to the hair follicle. This process causes a revitalization of the individual follicle, and a general strengthening of the hair. The light energy emitted from the Bosley Lasercomb may increase blood flow and circulation within the scalp. Blood flow is crucial to promoting healthy hair growth, and brings important nutrients into the follicle, while allowing the follicular cells to effectively dispose of detrimental waste products.
The device is hand-held and applied to the thinning areas for 10 to 15 minutes three times per week. Though not ideal for the treatment of advanced hair loss, the Bosely LaserComb is a convenient method to obtain the very best results after hair restoration surgery.
It is hypothesized that the LaserComb is an "Anagen Inducer", with the mechanisms of action of PhotoBioStimulation being an increase in vascular circulation and an increase in ATP (adenosine triphosphate for energy) production.
To provide energy for healthy growth.
To stimulate root for new growth of healthy terminal hair.
To stimulate vellus follicle/root to encourage the transformation from vellus hair back to healthy terminal hair.
No follicle exists and thus this stage of the condition is beyond revitalization.
