How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost?

Hair loss is a common condition that can have a serious impact on your mental health. If you’re looking for safe and effective hair restoration options, you may have considered a transplant. But how much is a hair transplant?

The cost of a hair transplant varies from person to person, so we are not able to provide an exact estimate online or over the phone. If you’re interested in a hair transplantation procedure, we recommend that you visit Bosley for a free video or in-person consultation.

Not only will our physicians and counselors be able to provide you with an estimate, but they can review monthly payment plan options to help make your procedure affordable on practically any budget.

Types of Hair Transplants

There are two types of hair transplant procedures and we offer both at Bosley: FUE hair transplants and FUT hair transplants.

Follicular Unit Extraction (Excision)

An FUE hair transplant is a procedure in which each follicular unit is harvested/extracted individually from your scalp. The follicles or follicular grafts come from the designated donor site, usually the back of your head, and we transplant them individually to the recipient site(s) — the area(s) of thinning.

Follicular Unit Transplantation

An FUT hair transplant is a procedure sometimes referred to as the “stripmethod.” For this procedure, we remove a strip of tissue from your scalp containing numerous hair follicles and then transplant the follicular grafts individually to the treatment area(s). The hair transplant price for this procedure is generally more affordable than that of an FUE.

Per-Graft: How We Determine Cost

So how much is a hair transplant depending on which procedure you opt for? Whether you opt for FUT or FUE, Bosley calculates the price of each hair transplant procedure on a per-graft basis, so the costs are unique to each patient. The exact number of grafts you’ll need (procedure size) depends on the extent of your hair loss and your hair restoration goals.

But how much are hair transplants on average? The majority of our procedures cost between $6,000 and $12,000.  Plus, we offer 3rd party financing and low monthly payments. The best way to get an accurate cost estimate and to determine how many grafts are needed/available to be harvested, is to have a free consultation with a Bosley specialist. Typically, FUT procedures are less expensive than FUE procedures for the same number of transplanted grafts.

The True Value of Bosley Hair Restoration

While the low upfront cost of temporary cosmetic solutions can seem like a good deal, the cost of maintaining cosmetic solutions ends up being significantly more than a Bosley procedure. Our transplanted hair restorations are permanent. Bosley hair transplantations are performed by the foremost experts in the field, so you can feel confident in their ability to deliver a lasting solution well worth the cost.

Financing Your Hair Transplant

Even if you want a hair transplant, we understand that the upfront cost can be more than some can afford out of pocket, which is why we offer multiple third-party financing options that work with practically any budget.* Get your procedure now, and pay it off in monthly installments. FAQs

What Is a Hair Transplant?

A hair transplant is a type of surgery that involves removing hair follicles, or grafts, from one area of the scalp (called the donor site) and transplanting them to the area(s) that are thinning, called the recipient area(s). There are two different types of transplant procedures, including one that removes follicles one at a time (the FUE) from the donor site and another that removes a strip of tissue containing all of your donor grafts at once (the FUT).

Note: You may have heard the term hair plugs and hair transplant used interchangeably. While the process and concept are similar, the harvesting and implantation processes differ drastically. Traditionally, hair plugs harvested hair in large round circles and were transplanted as such, resulting in an unnatural look. In fact, it was often equated to looking like a doll’s hair. So how much are hair plugs looked down on by the global hair restoration community? Due to its unnatural look and outdated process, hair plugs are no longer performed anywhere in the world.

How Much is Hair Transplant Treatment?

The cost of hair transplant treatment depends on a variety of factors, including the type of transplant you need and the size of the treatment area. At Bosley, the cost will be determined by the number of grafts required.

But how much do hair transplants cost on average? The majority of our procedures cost between $6,000 and $12,000. Plus, we offer 3rd party financing and low monthly payments. It’s best to schedule a consultation with our team to get an accurate estimate for your specific needs and hair growth goals.

How Much is a Hair Transplant with Financing?

Ultimately, the cost of your hair transplant doesn’t go down when you opt for financing — it simply makes the overall price more manageable by allowing you to pay off the procedure in monthly installments. Instead of paying the entire cost of the transplant upfront, you can pay it off in small chunks. This option makes hair transplants more accessible to all.

Our team can also help you determine which type of financing and payment plan is right for your needs during your initial consultation. If you’re interested in hair transplant financing, start your credit application today.

Am I a Candidate for a Hair Transplant?

A hair transplant can be a good option for people who have androgenetic alopecia, also called male pattern baldness or alopecia areata, as well as hair loss from burns or other trauma to the scalp that prevents hair from growing.

Androgenetic alopecia is a condition in which hair follicles grow smaller because of an enzyme called DHT. DHT causes hair to grow thinner and then stop growing altogether. Men who have progressed to 3 or above on the Norwood scale are the best candidates.

To receive a hair transplant, candidates must generally be in good health, have enough donor hair to meet their goals, and must also have an established hair loss pattern. You can discuss your candidacy with a Bosley Physician during your initial consultation.

What Can I Expect After a Hair Transplant?

The recoveryprocess will vary from person to person, and it will also depend on the type of transplant you receive. To learn more about what to expect, check out our blog about the average hair transplant recovery and timeline.

Are There Non-Surgical Alternatives to a Hair Transplant?

Bosley offers many options to help slow, stop and regrow hair. We recommend speaking with a Bosley specialist to see which option is most appropriate for you. Non-surgical solutions include LLLT (low-level laser therapy), SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation), Minoxidil, Finasteride, Topical Products, and more.
